What is The Love Heals Project?
The Love Heals Project is a community-driven initiative where people gather to make beaded bracelets with messages of care, acceptance, and encouragement. Each bracelet is created with the intention that it will be gifted - freely and anonymously - to someone in the community, maybe to someone whose beliefs or experiences differ vastly from our own. In a world that can feel increasingly divisive, these bracelets offer subtle reminders of our shared humanity.
Our Aim
Our vision is simple: to spark small acts of kindness that ripple outward through the community. We aim to:
- Bring people together and strengthen community bonds through creativity
- Boost awareness and understanding around mental health
- Celebrate diversity and create spaces where everyone feels they belong
These bracelets often show up in the right hands at the right moment. Sometimes, something as simple as a bracelet can act as a bridge.
Background
Rooted in Wet’suwet’en territory in Northern BC, the Love Heals Project came to life through a partnership between BRAINBOW Studio and the Bulkley Valley Collaborative Learning Society (BVCLS). It began with a bold goal: to create 5,000 bracelets - roughly one for every person in Smithers - as a way to turn love into action and explore how small acts of kindness can ripple through a community.
Love is a Verb
The Love Heals Project is a collective act of making and sharing - creating simple objects with care, and sending them back into the community as small gestures of connection and kindness. Sometimes, something as simple as a bracelet becomes a bridge.
-
MAKE
At hands-on workshops, community members create bracelets with meaningful words or phrases such as "YOU ARE LOVED".
-
SHARE
Bracelets are pooled and freely distributed at local events, celebrations, and gatherings.
-
WEAR
Recipients wear their bracelet as a reminder for themselves, and for anyone who notices it.
Project Update
This project is powered by people coming together - showing up, creating, connecting, and spreading kindness out into the world.
Together, our community has:
• Made & shared 1,800+ Love Heals bracelets (and counting!)
• Hosted 32+ workshops in the Bulkley Valley in 2025
• Involved over 350 participants of all ages
We track our progress toward 5,000 bracelets by colouring one figure on our banner for every 84 bracelets made. Each ring in the Love Heals logo marks another 1,000-bracelet ripple of impact.
After a pause, we’re resuming community workshops in early 2026. Follow us on social media @Love.Heals.Project for updates, sign up on this page to stay in the loop, or get in touch if you’d like to connect about future sessions.

FAQs about the Love Heals Project
What Inspired the Love Heals Project?
The understanding that love is an action - a practice - not just a feeling, and that during hard times, it’s small acts of kindness, not grand gestures, that can have the most impact. Healing isn’t about fixing or striving for “perfection”; it’s about good enough - showing up, being human, and offering care in imperfect but meaningful ways. The Love Heals Project began as an experiment in simple, creative connection, exploring how everyday actions can build empathy, support mental well-being, and remind us that we’re all in this together.
Why bracelets?
Much like friendship bracelets, they’re about connection. Bracelets are easy to wear, visible on your wrist, and adaptable for many people. Using letter beads, they carry meaningful words - little doses of “word medicine” you can wear - similar in spirit to BRAINBOW’s Mantra bracelets. Love Heals Project bracelets are wearable reminders of our shared humanity, even across differences.
Is this religious or political?
Nope. ❤️ This project is grounded in community well-being, creativity, mental health awareness, and compassion. It’s for people of all backgrounds, beliefs, identities, and experiences.
Do I need to be crafty or artistic to participate?
Absolutely not. If you can put beads on a string, you’re in. Workshops are relaxed, supportive, playful, and judgement-free. People often surprise themselves with how meaningful the process feels.
Where do the bracelets go?
Bracelets are shared freely during community events and celebrations. In 2025, we distributed bracelets at the Smithers Regional Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards, at Smithers Pride, and Canada Day.

What happens after our goal of 5,000 bracelets?
Short answer: we’re not totally sure yet - but the story won’t end. The Love Heals Project started as a community experiment in kindness and creativity, and 5,000 bracelets is our big milestone. When we get there, we’ll pause, celebrate, and reflect:
- What impact did this have?
- What feedback did we receive?
- What do we want to try next?
From there, we’ll listen to the community and follow what feels right. Possibilities include:
- continuing bracelet-making as an ongoing tradition
- evolving into new creative kindness projects
- sharing the model with other communities, possibly in partnership
- weaving Love Heals into broader mental health + creativity initiatives
No matter what shape it takes, the heart of the project - creativity, kindness, and connection - will continue forward.
What are people saying about the Love Heals Project?
Participants say making bracelets feels fun, calming, and meaningful:
- “It was grounding.”
- “It felt good to contribute to something hopeful.”
Recipients often describe bracelets arriving at just the right moment:
- “A small thing that meant a lot.”
- “I felt grateful, and it brought a smile to my face.”
Where is the Love Heals Project currently happening?
The Love Heals Project is currently active in Smithers, Telkwa, Houston, and Witset in northern British Columbia
Can you bring the Love Heals Project to our community?
Possibly - and we love the idea. Right now, the Love Heals Project is rooted in the Bulkley Valley, but we’re open to exploring how it might ripple out further. If your school, organization, or community group is inspired by this work, please get in touch. Depending on capacity, we may be able to:
- host a workshop in your community
- provide a Love Heals Project Kit with materials and guidance
- support you to create your own locally-rooted version
Our priority is keeping the spirit of the project grounded in kindness, inclusion, accessibility, and community well-being. Let’s see what makes sense for your context.
